At Rush House, we’re passionate about equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed choices, and last week was a brilliant example of that in action.
Andy from our Life Skills team has been working in partnership with Rotherham Titans Community Trust to deliver a series of engaging and impactful sessions for young people. These sessions are designed to open up important conversations, build awareness, and create safe spaces for learning.
As part of this ongoing collaboration, Andy was joined by Maxine to facilitate a Drugs Awareness session that encouraged participants to explore the realities of both legal and illegal substances.
Creating Space for Honest Conversations
The session gave young people the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and reflect, without judgement. Together, the group explored:
- The different types of substances, including those that are legal and illegal
- The short- and long-term risks associated with drug use
- The potential consequences of substance misuse
- How drugs can impact physical health, mental wellbeing, and future opportunities
By breaking down misconceptions and providing clear, factual information, Andy and Maxine helped participants better understand the real-life implications of their choices.
Supporting Safer Choices
At the heart of sessions like this is empowerment. We know that young people are faced with complex situations, and having access to honest, accessible information can make all the difference.
This session wasn’t about telling young people what to do, it was about giving them the tools to:
- Think critically
- Recognise risks
- Make safer, more informed decisions
Stronger Together
Our partnership with Rotherham Titans Community Trust continues to go from strength to strength, and sessions like this highlight the power of collaboration in supporting young people across Rotherham.
By working together, we can reach more individuals, tackle important topics head-on, and provide meaningful opportunities for growth and development.
